Pond landscape in undergrowth – Unsigned

CHF 150.00

Oil on wood panel depicting a pond in a undergrowth, in a dark and contemplative atmosphere. Unsigned piece, attributed to the Barbizon School or to the circle of the Genevan painter Henri Tirabosco.

This oil on wood panel offers an intimate undergrowth scene, where a calm pond borders an alignment of light rocks. The density of the vegetation occupies most of the composition, allowing diffused light to filter through the foliage. The reflections in the dark water reinforce the melancholic and contemplative character of the whole.

The pictorial treatment testifies to a certain savoir-faire: the material is worked in visible brushstrokes, with subtle impastos on the rocks and the breakthroughs of light in the sky. The dominant tones – deep greens, earthy browns, bluish grays – create a muted, almost wintry harmony, which gives the work a true atmospheric presence.

Unsigned, this painting has been linked to the style of the Barbizon School (mid-19th century) and to the circle of the Genevan painter Henri Tirabosco (1899–1985), known for his landscapes imbued with solitude and soft light. The work attracts the interest of art market professionals for its technical quality and unique atmosphere.

The general condition is good. The old carved wooden frame with a braided border shows slight signs of wear (small cracks on the finish) which contribute to the authentic charm of the whole. The painted surface shows no major cracks or visible restoration.
